Insights from Tahlia
What's exciting about the Defence industry?
“Defence industry is dynamic. Having come from the Army, where I was used to changing jobs every 2 years, I knew I needed a role where I would get to use my skills across different projects and in different ways. Every project within Defence industry is slightly different from the one I’ve done before, so it’s a great opportunity to be constantly learning and coming up with innovative solutions.“
What is the one thing you wish people knew about your job?
“You never stop learning or upskilling, which means you never have a dull day. There’s always a chance to learn a more efficient or effective way to get the job done.”
Tahlia is a learning and development specialist strengthening Defence capability through evidence-based instructional design, innovative learning solutions, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
What would you like to see more of in Defence industry?
“I would like to see people understand that producing good training takes time. With the rapid introduction and uptake of AI, I would like to see the human element always promoted.
You can’t develop good training without a properly skilled and passionate training specialist.”
What's your best tip for great work-life balance?
“My best tip for work-life balance is definitely exercise, particularly long walks. I recommend putting the ear plugs in (with a podcast or great music), getting into nature and putting one foot in front of the other. Preferably for 90 minutes!”
Apart from walking, what do you do to unwind?
“I spend time with my family. There is nothing better than working hard and then spending time with the people you work hard for.”
What's your word for 2025?
“My word for the year is Abundance. I am trying to be more grateful in 2025 and focus on the abundance I have in my life: my family, work, friends, study, and travel.”
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
“Probably rolling out ADELE (the … Training platform) at the Royal Military College, just before COVID hit. Being able to access learning resources online meant that training could continue throughout the pandemic.”
What’s currently on your bucket list?
“On my bucket list is travelling to Italy.”
What do you think makes our team culture unique?
“People who genuinely care. You never feel like it’s just a job at Human Quotient Group. It always feels like more and I’m grateful for that.”
What advice would you give to someone considering a career change or just starting out their professional journey?
“Talk to someone else who has done what you think you want to do and ask lots and lots and lots of questions.”
