Getting to know the Human Quotient team
Pamela Turner, Cowork Coplay Program Facilitator
Community impact, leadership and care
At Human Quotient Group, we believe our strength lies in our people—those who lead with purpose, show up with heart, and are committed to creating lasting impact.
In this edition of The Human Element, we’re spotlighting someone who embodies all of that and more: Pamela Turner, Cowork Coplay Program Facilitator and long-time Defence spouse. Warm, wise and wonderfully candid, Pamela brings deep empathy, a counsellor’s insights, and the Irish gift of the gab to her role. This is all a perfect mix to create the safe, supportive, joy-filled environment that defines our Cowork Coplay program and our community engagement!
By the way, Pamela is actually Human Quotient Group’s FIRST EMPLOYEE after the co-founders Ron and Claire started the company.
A voice for Defence families
Pamela has been a Defence spouse for 14 years, raising two Defence children (and a lively collection of pets) across multiple postings. Having originally trained as a nurse before choosing to become the leading parent for her girls, she knows first-hand what it takes to support a family in a Defence context. Pamela has seen the isolation and loneliness that Defence partners can face, as well as the strength, adaptability and extraordinary resilience that sits beneath it all.
After years supporting her family, Pamela felt a growing pull to return to work with purpose. She retrained as a counsellor, driven by a passion to support Defence children and families. When she saw the Cowork Coplay facilitator role advertised, she knew instantly: “This was designed for me.”
The mix of counselling, conversation, community, and supporting Defence spouses through study, employment, and wellbeing aligned perfectly with her skills, and her heart. As well as leading 2 programs so far she also leads the Careers and Conversations events in Adelaide and represents Human Quotient Group at a range of community and Defence events. This includes the Veterans SA Employer Network events. Pamela is also a keen supporter of the broader team, providing guidance and mentoring to other, newer Program Facilitators in other locations.
Insights from Pamela
What's exciting about the defence industry? / How did you get started in the industry?
“While I don’t work in a Defence industry role, I sit next to it and see what the broader team is doing. The activities underway in the industry are broad and cover such a diverse range of roles and jobs. The new technologies coming through are very fascinating to hear about.”
What is the one thing you wish people knew about your job?
“Communication is key, I think for my role as Program Facilitator for Cowork Coplay and broader community liaison point in Adelaide, it was just made for me. Being Irish I was born with ‘the gift of the gab’ so I get to talk for a living. No, not only that; there’s a lot of listening. I love hearing about all the experiences of Defence and veteran families and using all my skills and strategies to help people achieve what they want to achieve. Whether that’s better family dynamics, greater career direction or simply improved wellbeing…”
Pamela is a program facilitator supporting Defence and veteran families by creating supportive, engaging, and skills-focused learning environments that empower spouses and build community.
If you could only name one thing, what would you like to see in the Defence industry?
“Recognition of the brilliance of Defence and veteran spouses as part of our broader Defence ecosystem. I’d also like to see greater understanding and support for programs like Cowork Coplay for Defence/veteran spouses and the positive changes it makes to them and the broader community and economy. Many employers are missing out on this incredible talent pool!”
What's your best tip for great work-life balance? / What do you do to unwind & find calm?
“Don’t work, but seriously for me I must ensure I don’t overcommit. As a current Defence spouse I have to always ensure that all aspects of our family life I can achieve independently. I love to do deep breathing exercises to unwind or help me go to sleep. I also love taking the family including the dog to the beach in the afternoon and frolic until the sunset, just magical.”

What's your theme song for 2025? / Word for the year.
“My theme song would be “Happy” from ‘Despicable Me’. I just like to be happy most of the time.”
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
“Qualifying as a counsellor for me was a very proud moment as I achieved this while working, raising two young kids and being in a Defence family. When I studied Nursing when I was younger, I was single, carefree and had no responsibilities so I really was proud of the level of commitment and focus it required this time to gain my qualifications.”
What’s the strangest thing that has happened to you on a job in your career?
“Oh gosh, I don’t think I want to tell you about one of my freakiest night shifts in a nursing home. THE WITCHING HOUR IS REAL PEOPLE !!!!!”
What's one thing you are grateful for today?
“I’m grateful for my family, they are my world and we make an awesome team.”
What’s currently on your bucket list?
“My bucket list item someday I will tick off is staying in the glass igloos in Finland and watching the Aurora Borealis.”
What do you think makes our team culture unique?
“Laughter. So much laughter.”
What advice would you give to someone considering a career change or just starting out their professional journey??
“Don’t get stuck. You always have options, and life is better if you like what you do and take who you work with.”

Where lived experience becomes leadership
For Pamela, capability begins with people. Her career has shown that meaningful impact doesn’t come from processes alone, it comes from understanding how individuals learn, grow and thrive within complex Defence environments.
With her calm, strategic approach and ability to create clarity in fast-moving spaces, Pamela brings a grounded, human perspective to every project. At Human Quotient Group she values the trust, collaboration, and shared purpose of the team, where everyone’s strengths are recognised and elevated.
It’s this combination of real-world experience, empathetic leadership, and commitment to creating environments where people can excel that enables Pamela to shape solutions that strengthen performance, build confidence, and make a lasting difference across Defence and veteran communities.
